duration

24 hours

context

Built at Data@UCI's Datathon

A browser game where a reverse geocoder turns a target location into a series of geospatial clues, and you narrow down which Orange County city it is. Built with Next.js, TypeScript, and Tailwind, deployed to Vercel.

design

Clue ordering was the whole game

Almost none of the difficulty was technical. Give away the county subregion first and the game is over in two guesses. Give it away last and nobody finishes.

The version that worked reveals coarse geography early and specific landmarks late, so each guess feels like it narrowed something even when it did not.

outcome

Two awards

People's Choice and Best Use of Melissa Data API.
